Description

On April 29, 1855 (May 11), under the initiative and collections accumulated by Eustachijus Tiškevičius, the Vilnius Antiquities Museum and the Temporary Archaeological Commission of Vilnius were founded. Symbolically, in 2015, not only the 160th anniversary of the establishment of these institutions was celebrated, but also the 150th anniversary since the reorganization of the Vilnius Antiquities Museum after the 1863–1864 uprising and the 100th anniversary since the museum's liquidation in 1915. The Lithuanian National Museum, as the successor of the Vilnius Antiquities Museum collections and the guardian of museum traditions, organized an international scientific conference "Struggle for History: Vilnius Antiquities Museum (1855–1915)" on May 7–8, 2015. This collection of scientific articles was prepared based on the presentations at the conference.
