Description
The photographs of J. Hiksa, published in the ninth book of the series "History of Lithuanian Photography" published by the National Museum of Lithuania, are selected from albums preserved in the museum, probably compiled by the author. They are grouped according to certain themes and arranged in four chapters: 'Verkiai Manor', 'Views of Vilnius and Trakai', 'Views from Travels in Europe', and 'Hunting on the Manors of the Dukes zu Sayn-Wittgenstein'.
The photographic legacy of J. Hiksa could be described as a unique chronicle of images, creating a narrative about the lifestyle of the Lithuanian aristocracy and landed gentry of the 19th century, the cultural traditions of the manors, the farming activities and the environment.
We hope that this publication will be useful not only for cultural heritage researchers and photographic historians, but also for all those interested in the past of their country.
