Description
This book is the second extensively revised edition of the book about Vladas Mironas (1880–1953), one of the signatories of the Act of Independence on February 16th. The biography of V. Mironas is supplemented with additional materials in the book's appendices, including a chronicle of his life and activities, his articles, letters, and a bibliography.
Like many Lithuanians who experienced the intense political changes of the first half of the 20th century, Vladas Mironas's life was filled with numerous events, both joyful and dramatically poignant. He endured the horrors of two world wars, participated in the restoration of the Lithuanian state, and witnessed its occupation. In the 1940s, after deciding to stay in his homeland, V. Mironas was repeatedly arrested and imprisoned during the totalitarian regime, eventually dying far from Lithuania, in Vladimir Prison in Russia.
