ISBN 978-609-8039-73-3The book explores the historical context of the emergence of spindle making and pottery kiln construction traditions in Vilnius and Lithuania, their developmental features, and the discussion of further dissemination trends and directions throughout the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and beyond its borders. It provides a comprehensive collection of spindles from this period, selecting the diversity of decoration and manufacturing technology as the main evaluation criteria.
The catalog presents examples of all known Vilnius spindles from the 15th to 17th centuries with unique ornamentation or made according to specific manufacturing technology. They are published and analyzed as a rich and informative group of archaeological finds and applied art pieces. In compiling the catalog, all spindles stored in Vilnius museums were reviewed and systematized, categorizing them by type and groups according to chronology, manufacturing technology, location in the kiln, and decoration.
