Description

On the 26th-27th of September 2019, the international conference "For the Eyes and Soul: Private Art Collections in Lithuania" was held at the Kazys Varnelis House-Museum in Vilnius. The studies that attracted a lot of interest have been published in this publication.

The conference featured presentations by scholars from Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, Germany and Switzerland, covering the period of the 16th and 21st centuries and presenting the experiences and collecting practices of different social classes. Most of the studies presented are published in this publication. The collection of articles comprises ten publications in Lithuanian and English, with detailed abstracts. The structure of the volume corresponds to the three thematic groups identified in the conference programme: 'In Search of Motives', 'Changing Tradition and New Practices' and 'Reconstructions of Collections'.
