Algimantas Kunčius, a photographer and winner of the National Prize for Culture and Art, has been photographing Vilnius for 60 years. He has amassed a huge archive of negatives and prints. Of particular historical interest is the period 1960-1970, when the Old Town of the capital, cleansed of war and post-war ruins, had not yet begun its comprehensive restoration. The publication is not limited to the architectural heritage, but attracts with a variety of photographic genres, original image puzzles telling about the moods of the people of the time in the streets and courtyards with authentic surroundings, as well as images that have already disappeared from the Vilnius landscape.
