Description
This book continues Jan Bułhak's photographic journeys through the old city. Like in the first volume, it features photographs of the Vilnius landscape and its architectural monuments. Included are panoramas of the city, streets, squares, courtyards of the old town, churches, palaces, and their interiors, revealing other equally interesting sightseeing routes through Vilnius and its suburbs—Antakalnis, Šnipiškės, Lukiškės, and Žvėrynas, including the present-day Vingis Park. The photographic journey concludes with images of the city's most important sanctuaries—the Cathedral and the adjacent square.
The book presents invaluable photographs for researchers of the city's past, capturing structures and quarters that no longer exist or have been destroyed by historical events and ideological circumstances.
Today, most of Bułhak's captured scenes are perhaps the sole and most informative witnesses of Vilnius' past, its history, and visual transformations.
