Description

Over two decades, the collector and lawyer Dr. Jaunius Gumbis has amassed a valuable collection of Lithuanian artworks. The major part of the Lithuanian art collection consists of sculptures and paintings from the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. A portion of the collection includes artworks reflecting the origins of folk art in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The collection of folk sculptures predominantly features examples of traditional folk sculpture from the region of Žemaitija. The valuable collection of folk paintings assembled by the collector comprises artworks painted on wooden boards or canvas with oil paints or tempera from the 17th century to the beginning of the 20th century, depicting saints, their life events, biblical scenes, and the life and suffering of Christ.

Dr. Jaunius Gumbis's collection serves as an example of how one person can contribute to the preservation of Lithuania's cultural heritage.
