Description

Eight centuries ago, the Franciscan Order founded by St. Francis of Assisi has been closely associated with the Catholic Church in Lithuania and the development of the state since the beginning of its activities in our region. The Franciscan Order became one of the most popular monastic orders, expanding its network of convents to the farthest eastern edges of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In 2009, the 800th anniversary of the founding of the Franciscan Order was celebrated. In the autumn of the same year, the Lithuanian National Museum, together with the Lithuanian Province of the Order of Friars Minor, organized a conference and exhibition. The book features articles that review the different periods of development of the Franciscan Observant (Bernardine) Order, as well as periods of growth. The majority of the publication consists of the catalog of exhibitions held in the museum and an article summarizing them.

The publication contains articles in Lithuanian. Each article has an English summary
