This catalog is an updated, revised, and expanded edition of the 2005 catalog that systematized the oldest postcards featuring views of Vilnius. It presents more than 4,000 local and foreign publisher postcards issued between 1897 and 1915. They are presented in chronological order by publishers, of which there are over 122 listed in the catalog.
About 1,200 different photographs of Vilnius views were used for the postcards. The authors of these photographs are renowned photographers: Józef Czechowicz, Albert Swieykowski, Stanisław Filibert Fleury, brothers Leon and Miron Butkowski, Tyburcy Chodźko, John Hicks, Aleksandras Jurašaitis, Nikolai Ostankovich, Jan Bułhak, and others, who portrayed the unique multicultural beauty and poetry of the city in their works. The collected iconographic material, as a reflection of a certain period, could become an additional source for studies of our country's culture and history, and for the general public and every lover of old Vilnius, this book will be a pleasant acquaintance with the city at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
