Description

Jan Bułhak (1876–1950), the most prominent photographer of Vilnius landscapes in the first half of the 20th century, spent almost his entire adult life in this city. Settling here before the First World War, he worked as the city's photographer, bearing witness to and participating in its life – his camera captured historical and cultural events, photographed historical figures and ordinary residents of Vilnius, church and ethnographic festivals, and documented architectural landmarks.

The third book of Jan Bułhak's artistic legacy, "Vilnius: Events and People. Surroundings," published by the Lithuanian National Museum, is a visual chronicle of the most significant events in the life of the city during the first half of the 20th century. It is supplemented with portraits of contemporaries, ethnographic scenes, and artistic landscapes of the environs of Vilnius.
