Description

Vytautas Augustinas (1912–1999) - the most prominent photographer of interwar independent Lithuania. Starting to photograph while still a teenager, he captured many images of Lithuanian nature, cities, and villages in his photographs, as well as moments of military life and the activities of social organizations, the march of the Lithuanian army to Vilnius in 1939, events during Soviet and German occupations, and the hardships of Lithuanian war refugees. From expressive photographs depicting dancing, marching, and enthusiastic people of all nationalities living in the region, Augustinas managed to create a compelling image of the emerging modern state.
